Mountain cabin

Settled on a hillside of the Blue Ridge Mountains this cabin serves as a respite for a family residing in Columbus, Ohio.

The traditional gable form lends itself to simplified building techniques allowing the client to self-perform the construction. The desire to construct oneself a retreat serves to enrich the build and provide soul to the space.

The foundation allows the cabin to sit off the ground minimizing the disruption of the natural landscape as much as possible and inviting regrowth at the cabin’s perimeter. The expansive glazing promotes views of the surrounding terrain and stream while gathering filtered sunlight throughout the day. Both the interior and exterior utilize natural materials; common imperfections found in these materials are welcomed and celebrated.
